The  (floor) of the monument is a map of the world circled by the eight supporting columns.  On each of the columns are listed the major battles of the war.  A reference number, corresponding to the battle, is displayed on the map so that the location of the battle can be seen on the map.  The battles listed on the columns are shown below.
